What is a Bridge?

A bridge is a permanent unit that allows us to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.  They work in a similar way to crowns except that you must have a crowned tooth on either side of the space.  The teeth that will be crowned and anchor the appliance are called abutments.  The teeth that are in the middle spanning the space are called pontics.  Bridges are one of the three replacement options for missing teeth.  They have similar life expectancies, and maintenance requirements to crowns.  Drs.
